14. Describe your relationship with God in three words:
Work in progress
I was raised in a Christian home and I was raised Baptist. One of the churches we went to wanted us to give up dancing, roller skating, and music...well rock n roll. My dad, who played guitar in two rock n roll bands, packed us up and we ran for the door. We eventually found another church.
At this church I asked God into my life at the age of eight and was Baptized. Later that year the Pastor moved to St. Louis and a much bigger church. The next Pastor at that church tried to make us give up dancing and music. Again, my dad grabbed us and we hit the door running. We then went to another Baptist church in another city.
We stayed there through my college years where I decided that God was nothing more than "thou shalt not" and condemnation. I got married in 2001 and divorced in 2003 without God. My parents found a new church and constantly begged me to go.
Once I was divorced I thought why not. I went on a Saturday, which was the outreach night. It was rock n roll, fog, lights, and the Pastor talked about how God wants us to live happy, prosperous lives. What? No "thou shalt not"????? Through that church I found a God that wants me to live life to the fullest and still loves me, unconditionally, even when I make mistakes. I found a God that wants an everyday relationship with me, and does not want to condemn me for my mistakes, but instead is willing to forgive me. I found out that God is love and more importantly a God who loves me.
In 2004 I married my wife, Erica, and my step-daughter Australyah. In 2005 we had baby girl, Irelynn. In 2008 my son Kale was born. In 2009 I lost my father to cancer. There are many ups and down to any life and/or relationship. My relationship with God is always a work in progress because I am not perfect nor will I ever claim to be.
